A tanker lorry carrying petrol overturned on Al Khail Road in Dubai causing in a major traffic jam. The lorry overturned around noon near the first roundabout on Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi.

Eye witness accounts indicate that abrupt braking may have led to the lorry tipping over. There is no confirmation on injuries to the tanker crew or any other road users.

“Petrol has spilled along the road and road traffic has been blocked now for almost an hour,” said Akram Khan, an eye witness.  He said the traffic tailback stretches to more than a kilometre.

Police have blocked the road and are working to remove the truck. Another eye witness Santhosh Hegde said he somehow managed to take the Al Safa exit thereby avoiding getting caught in the traffic. Motorists heading in the direction of Abu Dhabi are advised to avoid the traffic snarl by taking the Al Safa or the Dubai World Trade Centre exits. [Emirates247]

Three people were killed and three others were injured when a truck smashed into a wayside cafeteria today at around 1pm in the Al Bathna area of Fujairah. Alot of broadcasts and smses were going on and on about it today. Fujairah Police sources confirmed and said that the accident took place when a speeding vehicle hit the truck causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle and ram into the cafeteria.

Though police and rescue workers quickly reached the spot, they were unable to save the three lives. The accident caused huge tailbacks in the area, disrupting flow of vehicles for about an hour. As always a senior police official said most of the accidents on the highways are caused by speeding and reckless driving. [Gulf News]

This morning Abu Dhabi faced Traffic Chaos, accidents in the city centre and on the roads leading into the capital have caused chaos on the roads this morning. Commuters on Sheikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi were also stuck in traffic due to this.

Earlier this morning motorists were held up as much as an hour by a seven car accident on the interchange before Mussafah bridge. According to Abu Dhabi police twitter site, the area was clear by 9.40am. The Abu Dhabi police, through their twitter page did a greate job awared and advised motorists to be caution in the tourist Club Area, Al Najda street, Al Salam street and Hamdan street, where there are heavy traffic jams.

Overloaded Truck Overturns

Alot of us experienced traffic jam today...

Alot of us experienced traffic jam today at around 5pm and were all wondering what caused it. Apparently an overloaded truck tipped over on Shaikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi causing huge tailback on the highway.

The accident took place in front of Al Waha Centre on Shaikh Zayed Road heading to Abu Dhabi. The accident, which was reported to the police at 4:02 pm, caused congestion until after 5 pm and those who experienced the traffic jam in Umm Al Shief and AlWasl Road was because drivers were taking these routes as alternatives!

No fatalities or injuries were reported on the scene.

A Bus Overturns in Sharjah

A bus carrying Umrah pilgrims overturned and skidded for a few metres on Al Wahda Road in Sharjah after it hit a road barrier, today morning (11.45am), and it has been reported that 20 passengers are injuired. The bus was on its way to Abu Dhabi and was carrying 45 pilgrims when the accident happened near the City Centre.

“The bus belonged to Al Ghazal Transport and was taking its passengers to Abu Dhabi. From there, the passengers were then supposed to ride another bus that would take them to Saudi Arabia so they could perform Umrah,” said Lt. Col. Bin Darwish.

Traffic was at a standstill as ambulances and Anjad patrols blocked the road to traffic in order to remove the bus from the road. Twenty passengers who suffered from minor injuries were then transferred to Kuwait Hospital for first aid.

“It took us nearly one hour to remove the bus and restore the flow of traffic, which was our priority because we did not want school children or residents coming home from work to get stuck in traffic,” said Col. Lt. Bin Dariwsh.

It has been pointed out that the accident was caused by excessive speeding. The bus driver passed King Faisal Bridge and when he tried to take a right turn towards Al Wahda Road, lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into the metal road barrier.

Truck tips over on Shaikh Zayed Road

A garbage truck owned by Dubai Municipality...

A garbage truck owned by Dubai Municipality tipped over, causing great congestion on Shaikh Zayed Road when the speeding truck’s tyre burst and the vehicle landed on its side.

The accident caused road congestion for over two hours on Shaikh Zayed Road heading to Abu Dhabi. The police managed to remove the truck from the road in an hour, said a police source.

The driver and his companion sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment. – gulfnews
