Argentina vs Mexico

Argentina set up a quarter-final meeting with Germany after a controversial 3-1 win over Mexico in their last 16 clash in Johannesburg.just as England had been incensed earlier on Sunday when a Frank Lampard shot that clearly crossed the goal-line was not awarded in their match against Germany, so Mexico had the right to feel aggrieved by another example of awful officiating.Javier Aguirre’s side probably edged an engrossing opening phase to the contest, but they never recovered after Carlos Tevez headed Argentina in front despite being yards offside when the ball was played to him by Lionel Messi.Mexico players protested to the officials, but referee Roberto Rosetti awarded the goal after consulting his assistant.

Tempers were flying as expected in a South American tie to qualify to the next round.Argentina were gifted their second goal on 33 minutes when Ricardo Osorio gave the ball away to Gonzalo Higuain and he scored his fourth goal of the tournament. The Tevez goal was clearly still a source of frustration and several Mexicans surrounded Italian referee Roberto Rosetti and his team as they made their way from the field. The rising Manchester united star did shine for Mexico as he found the net and deserved to be playing in a good side.Argenina set up a titanic clash with Germany in the next round but will use the advantage of playing early in the knockouts to rest, recover and re energise.Maradonas men weren’t at their personal best today but avoided the potential slip and live to fight another day.Argentina progress to the next round and Diego Armando Maradonas remarkable story continues…..

Uruguay vs Mexico

Uruguay and Mexico knew a point is all they needed to qualify into the next stage and despite suggestions that the two would play out the draw,Gus Poyet the ex Uruguay and Chelsea star pointed out validly that neither nation wanted to finish second because the probability would be a meeting with Giants Argentina in the next round in the knockout stages.Uruguay and Mexico have reached the World Cup knockout stages after Luis Suarez’s goal decided their final game.Mexico hit the woodwork midway through the first half as Andres Guardado’s 25-yard blast cannoned off the crossbar.

But it was the Uruguayans who took the lead at the end of the first-half as Suarez latched onto Edinson Cavani’s floated cross to put to bed conspiracy theories they were playing for the draw. There is alot more to come out of this Uruguay’s side and they might just be a dark horse in this competition with players all around the pitch knowing their role and responsibility.Despite South Africas win,it wasnt enough as Mexico had a superior goal difference.Mexico might be considering themselves lucky for qualifying into the knockout stages but may not be completely at rest as they will most probably play Argentina unless there is another shock on the cards. Mexico vs France

A tasteless performance or a bitter taste in the mouth left after that performance by France. Not much to say but a mess that Laurent Blanc has to deal with but unfortunately for players like Thierry Henry,Nicolas Anelka,Florent Malouda,William Gallas and Patrick Viera its the end of the old generation and in with the new Regime. I already voiced my concern about the manager and can officially tell this column that both the reader and i would of done a better job in preparing for the WORLD CUP! not the Carling Cup or the Copa Del Rey-The competition that changes lives not only for the footballer but for their grandchildren to reminisce and cherish the Gold medal that has been passed down generation after generation. The Defence was shaky playing a left back Abidal who doesn’t even get into his club team and leaving Mexes at home to watch the defence crumble. The ever ageing Toulalan who faded with every minute that passed in this tournament, the idea of playing Govou playing instead of the most experienced play in the French squad who just happens to be the face of France and the captain. For certain fans this could be seen as Karma after the controversial manner in which they qualified against the Irish but personally I’m very disappointed that the French are relying on results to go their way and best of luck to the Mexicans who are like an express train with an unknown destination.

A defensive mistake by Abidal who let the highly rated Manchester united star Hernandez run through to go around the stranded Hugo Loris to slot home. The French instantly dropped their heads and a shrug of the shoulder suggested the team who were not Mentally prepared to rise to the challenge due to their preparation and lack of harmony amongst the camp were deteriorating. However, the Mexican players seemed to play without a weight on their shoulders and when you play stress free and with an open mind you play with a freedom to express your attributes and talent. Giovanni Dos Santos who couldn’t even find a club to play in a year ago is taking responsibility and playing with a smile on his face, and could just use the tournament to discover the form that merited his graduation from the Barcelona star Academy.

Mexico added more misery to France by scoring the second after a penalty was awarded for careless defending by Abidal, allowing Blanco to take a 15 m run to strike penalty past the diving Loris. Not enough taste by the French or too Hot to handle from the Mexicans! you decide… Mexico 2 France 0

RSA vs Mexico

Well we witnessed 2 games in contrast today and normally an opening game is very unpredictable with a hint of anxiety, tension, excitement and an inner voice shouting many things to step forward and fulfill your ambition and destiny.

Well we witnessed 2 games in contrast today and normally an opening game is very unpredictable with a hint of anxiety, tension, excitement and an inner voice shouting many things to step forward and fulfill your ambition and destiny. Todays game was emotional for many reasons and having a World Cup Staged in Africa for the 1st time is an honour to not only South Africa but the billions and billions of people who are getting together to celebrate this behind the sport of football. South Africa started the Party as  they were lining up in the dug out preparing to walk onto Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg on front of a capacity of 94,700 fans. As the camera looked through the tunnel the silhouette of the players singing and dancing emphasized the spirit and character of the South Africans in comparison to the sturdy and straight faced Mexicans standing on their right. Bufana Bufanas energy was infectious and one couldn’t help but smile and admire these players who are determined to put a show on for the Nation. After the national anthem Sepp Blatter and the current president Jacob Zuma lifted the spirits by saying “the time for africa has come-it has arrived”.

The South Africans started well and after a nervy first half the opening goal came on 63 min with a superb sequence of two touch passing, fell to the left foot of SIPHIWE TSHABALALA  whos strike flew into the top corner lifting the whole stadium . The celebrations were wonderful with Bufana Bufana displaying their rhythm but performing a short dance for the Fans.It was a tight game and with 10 minutes to go Rafael Marquez of Barcelona equalised from a floated cross to the back post which the South African defence failed to deal with controlling and slotting past the keepers front post.In the dying seconds of the game South Africa had a chance to score the winner but unfortunately stuck the post and concluding the game with a score draw. South Africa 1-1 Mexico.
