UAE Gulf Cup History

Here are some interesting facts and information …. About the UAE in the Gulf Cup tournament.

In Short: The UAE fist joined the Gulf Cup in 1972 in its 2nd tournament which was held in Saudi Arabia. The first game was against Qatar where the UAE team won 1-0 from a goal by Suhail Salem and it in 3rd place at its first tournament and in 2007 the UAE won the Gulf Cup for the first time.

In 1972 it was not only the first international team in, but it was the first presence of UAE athletes ever. This team included:

The first coach to the UAE team was the Egyptian coach Mohammed Sidique known as “Shehta”. And the results expected, where that the United Arab Emirates defeated Qatar with a goal scored Suhail Salem in 21 minutes is the start of a more than impressive, and after the team lost to Saudi Arabia zero / 4 , and Kuwait zero / 7, and Bahrain zero / 2 . Then the decision of the organizing committee for the tournament write-off the results of Bahrain. The Emiratis lived the moment of victory when the team leader Ahmed Issa ascended the podium as the United Arab Emirates was announced to ranked third.

UAE Goalie Majed Naser had a great match and helped UAE to draw with Iraq 0/0 in their first match in group B. Majed who saved a lot of Iraqi’s chances including a penalty kicked for Iraq in the last minutes of the match.

The first half of the match was below the expected from both teams. There was little number of chances with a few advances for Iraqi team who controlled the middle but they couldn’t score any goal. The second half started with Iraqi players continued to attacking UAE goads but with no score.

In minute 86 Emad Mohammad faild to score a penalty kicked which saved by UAE goalie Majed Naser to end the match 0/0 with one point for the both teams.

Gulf Cup of Nations 2010

The Gulf Cup of Nations, also known...

The Gulf Cup of Nations, also known as Khaleeji, is a football (soccer) tournament currently held every two years rotating the host city every edition. Previously the competition was usually held on a biannual basis.

This year the Gulf Cup of Nations 2010 is the twentieth edition of the Gulf Cup, and is taking place Aden, Yemen, in November 2010 (ie today) The opening match will be played today between Yemen and  KSA. Before we talk about the 20the edition of the Gulf Cup lets go back in history to where and when it started ..!

The Gulf Cup of Nations was a dream cherished by the sons of Saudi Arabia, and the efforts of all people in the Gulf this tournament saw the light and came into existence, and has become a reality live event to the people of this region. It started as an idea from His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal at the Summer Olympics Mexico in 1968. After the return of Bahrainis from Mexico City, the Bahrain Football Association held a meeting and considered the idea from all sides, and then sent notes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar and only in a short period of time Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Football Association, received and approval of all States.

Then an expanded meeting was held on June 19, 1969 where it was approved unanimously to hold the first Gulf in the period from 27 March to the third of April 1970. The first tournament was held in 1970 in Bahrain between March 27 and April 3, featuring the four teams are: Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Kuwait national team won the football to that tournament.

But what about the UAE?

Congratulations UAE

Our junior UAE team under 17 played...

Our junior UAE team under 17 played against Saudi Arabia for the title of “Gulf Cup Under-17″ and the score is UAE 2 Saudi Arabia 1.

Walid Anbar led the UAE team to victory after scoring two goals in the 46th and 53rd minute of the game, giving the UAE a comfortable lead. Saudi Arabia managed to find the net through Abdullah Madu in the 76th minute.

Congratulations UAE .. This is the second time well done!

Congratulations UAE, the Gulf Cup for U23 champions. Our youth team lifted the Under-23 Gulf Cup today when they beat Kuwait 1-0 in an absorbing final in Qatar. Ahmad Khalil scored the match-winner in the 32nd minute of the match which was dominated throughout by the UAE.

The UAE under-23 team in action. The team are looking for honors as they face Kuwait in the Under-23 Gulf Cup final in Qatar tonight. This tournament is seen as preparation for the forthcoming Asian Games in China and qualification for the Olympic Games.

Having secured their path to the final with a 1-0 win over defending champions Saudi in Group B, the UAE went on to draw 1-1 with Kuwait in the group stages before they knocked out hosts Qatar 3-1 in the semi-final.

Whatever the score tonight against Kuwait, the UAE’s progress in the U-23 Gulf Cup so far is testament to the FA’s emphasis on youth development, and many are hoping this bodes well for the future. We are proud of our “Future Team”
