“It feels good to know there are people who appreciate us,” said Pakistani taxi driver Saqib Zia.

A Dubai hotel recently served lunch to hundreds of the city’s taxi drivers. They fed around 600 cabbies early this week as a big ‘thank you’ for all their hard work. This is one good act of kindness. We urge for more …

Salt and UAE Food

An article was posted in THE NATIONAL...

An article was posted in THE NATIONAL “Salt levels in  food spark fears” and the doctors are urging the Government to regulate salt in food after some brands in the UAE were found to be among the world’s saltiest. We would like to say good job in bringing such topic up where we are sure that many are not aware of it.

So, Did you know that a KFC popcorn chicken bought in the UAE has 4.7g of salt – more than the same product in the US, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Did you know that the Malaysian version has just 1.68g of salt, barely a third the amount of the UAE portion.

Too much salt could increase the risk of high blood pressure – or hypertension – and lead to strokes and heart disease, a major killer in the Emirates. Therefore we believe that it is very important to educate people that salt is a risk factor for hypertension. It’s time that the people  realise that they should be cutting the amount of salt in their food.

Now you tell us, How do you think this could best be achieved?

lizard in can of baked beans

“When I got home I opened the...

“When I got home I opened the can and I spotted something weird. So I took a spoon, placed the spoon under what was bothering me and lifted the spoon. It was half a lizard. I was lucky enough that it was right on top of the can. I was going to eat half the can only. I can only imagine if it was [right] at the bottom of the can.” -

“We have already pulled all Kimball baked bean cans with the same manufacture date and lot number as the one found to be contaminated,” Ahmad Al Ali, head of the Food Inspection Section at Dubai Municipality

Half-a-lizard found in Kimball baked beans purchased from a Bur Dubai grocery store in July 2010. Is this normal? Did we reach to the point where we cant even trust what we are eating?! Who should we blame??
