Cargo ship catches fire in Sharjah

Another fire in Sharjah but this time...

Another fire in Sharjah but this time its a cargo ship. One crew member of a cargo ship was injured after a fire broke out on board the vessel, a civil defence official said.

“The fire broke out on board the ship at around 2.20pm, soon after it loaded its goods at Port Khalid,” said civil defence officer Colonel Mohammed Abu Taweel.

Sharjah Police said the operations control room immediately dispatched a team from Civil Defence and notified the Coastal Guards, who reached the scene to rescue the crew members on board the vessel. Col Abu Taweel said one crew member sustained minor burns and was given first aid at the scene, before being taken to Kuwait Hospital.

Traffic police cordoned off the area, which created heavy traffic congestion Al Meena Road, heading towards and away from the government buildings.

“The fire took almost one hour to be extinguished because the flames were very strong, causing the rest of the cargo on board to be completely destroyed,” said Col Abu Taweel.

Blaze in Plastic Warehouse

At around 10pm today a huge fire...

At around 10pm today a huge fire devoured a factory of plastic in Sharjah. The civil defense teams from Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman rushed to help put of the fire. Because was been windy today this was a reason why the fire reached the 6 warehouses behind “Sharjah City Center” where still the Civil Defense continue their efforts in fighting the blaze, which caused no casualties so far.

Sharjah: A massive fire broke out in the evening on Sunday at a plastic manufacturing factory in the Industrial Area No 5, behind Sharjah City Centre. Civil Defence rushed to battle the flames and officials are still at the scene.

Update from Emarat AlYoum: A fire broke out, in a timber/wood warehouse in Ras Al Khor Dubai. Fire trucks rushed immediately, to the accident site and is working to control it, to prevent the spread to the neighboring warehouses.

According to a police source in Dubai there are no causalities!

About 139 people from 29 families were...

About 139 people from 29 families were left homeless after Saturday’s fire that gutted an eight-storey building on Airport Road, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Director Brigadier Najm Abdullah Al Hosani told Gulf News: “All the 139 people have been provided with hotel accommodation and food by the government.”

Nine people sustained minor to moderate injuries in the fire, which erupted on Saturday around 3.30pm in the Awafi Trading building. Six other victims were treated on site. There were no fatalities, and injuries were due to smoke inhalation, police said.

A total of 14 fire engines, 12 pumps, seven ambulances, helicopters, seven civil defence stations, plus crime scene investigators and personnel from the criminal investigations department worked together to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but investigators confirmed that it began in the ground floor and quickly spread to the upper floors.

Police and fire force extinguished the fire after a three-hour long effort. Four floors of the building and several cars parked under it have been damaged.

“There was no casualty but some residents received minor injuries while escaping from the fire”, Police officials on the scene said.

The fire was brought completely under control by 7pm.

Fire in Al Ain’s Central Market

A fire razed at least a dozen...

A fire razed at least a dozen shops at Al Ain’s Central Market or Souq Al Markazy. The market was open till 1:00am due to the holy month of Ramadan and people were having Suhoor when the fire erupted.

The police and fire brigade officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. There were no reports of serious injuries, however, some people were treated for smoke inhalation.

6-car collision in Dubai

Spotted Today at 4:30 pm as people were leaving their offices, there was a big accident at Al Sufouh Road. 1 woman killed in 6-car collision in Dubai, a Speeding four-wheel drive hit five other cars after its tyre burst.

Owen Bennett, from Ireland, was caught up in the accident. He said the crash happened behind him as he waited in his car for the traffic light to change.

“We were told it was a blow out and then all the cars started to crash into each other,” he said.

“My car was hit but I got it away and then ran back to see if we could help people out. The fires started instantly.

“There was one family who were very lucky. Their car caught fire as we were pulling them out and it just exploded when we got the last one away,” he said. “It was touch and go. If the people were in the car any longer they would have been dead.”

Civil Defence confirmed one woman died in the pile-up, which involved a number of vehicles. Police are investigating.

Three New Fire Stations

The official opening of Al Barsha centre was attended by senior civil defence officers and inaugurated by Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who witnessed a number of drills, including rescue and firefighting missions. The other new stations opened yesterday were in Port Saeed and Lessilye areas. Stations will be opened in Al Manara and Marsa later.

Existing sations at Al Hamriya, Al Rashidiya, Satwa and Al Qusais will be restructured in the near future. The centres will also be built on environmentally friendly standards, said Maj. Gen. Al Matroushi. The new centres have a circular shaped operations room on top of a five storey building, which overlooks the area the centre is responsible for covering.
