Starbucks in Dubai primary school

An opening of a Starbucks coffee shop in one of the primary schools in Dubai have sparked debate among parents, with some voicing concerns about the security, health and ethical implications. Ok now health concerns I can understand but what does an opening on Starbucks in a school cause security and ethical implications??

“The whole thing doesn’t make any sense,” said a mother who wished to remain anonymous. “Many schools have cafeterias and community rooms where parents can meet, have coffee and a chat, but there is no need for this to be so public.”

I know Some parents were pleased to have somewhere comfortable to wait for their children, but yet others are worried about how staff will control access to the shop during busy times.  As I was told from one of the parents this is aimed  to be used only by parents and staff, with a separate entrance and security in place.

As the National said: In a bid to ease health concerns, the school has removed muffins and doughnuts from the menu

First EmiraTalks 1.0

What I could not say in person, I can reveal through words and unsung emotions. I am still having an “EmiraTalks1.0″ hangover. The presence and the spirit last evening was amazing. It was the second day of the New Year where people were on vacation we were honored and thrilled to have people who included the event in their busy schedules and made sure they attended. Also people coming from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah all the way to Dubai Marina Yacht Club to show up, support and attend meant a lot to us. We expected 50 people and 120 showed up (applause). I would like to thank all of the speakers for their contributions and involvement in making the first series of EmiraTalks 1.0 a successful one:

The Speakers & Panelists

1- Mark DeSario
2- Sultan AlQassemi
3- Mohammed Kazim
4- Shaima Alawadhi
5- Omar Javed
6- Butheina Kazim
7- Mohammed & Payeman Alawadhi

And our EMCEE Aida Al Busaidy. We were honored to have you in our first series of EmiraTalks1.0. In addition, the audience enjoyed the panel discussion thoroughly. The 2 recommendations that came through was that the panel should have been at the end instead of in between and more time allotted for questions from the audience.

Emiratweet hopefully is stepping into 2010 with a different kind of resolution which will make a difference inshalla.

Think the Unthinkable

EmiratTalks 1.0 – “Think the Unthinkable brought” by Emiratweet ..

Who is it for? Its for anyone who is interested in learning and stimulating thoughts about “Dubai Financial Crises” & “Media”

Purpose: Stimulate new thoughts, ideas and solutions

When? Saturday 2nd January 2010 (5 pm – 8 pm)

Where? Dubai Marina Yacht Club

We will be organizing this  workshop  to stimulate and aware ourselves and youth about the “Dubai Financial Crisis”. We  have a huge responsibility on our shoulders to understand recent home market activities to have the opportunity to  prove to the naysayers that they are wrong about Dubai’s current and future executive management.

That’s why we need to stir up Emirati pride through strong patriotic emotions towards ignorant media, how about holding a smaller sized workshop to understand the financial basics of what happened in the past two weeks and how we can speak-up and correct the wrong facts on Dubai

Emiratweet took it upon itself to do so and dedicated its first “EmiraTalk” to this matter. The local media needs to support Dubai strongly. Spreading the positive outlook is very important for Dubai at a time like this. I assure you Dubai will be back in style and strength in no time because it has always been an active business hub for the region & the current situation is a ”correcting phase”. Nothing can tarnish the reputation of Dubai! Follow the hashtag on twitter #Emiratalks1 – lets us it in twitter to share opinions, views and articles regarding this topic.

1- Introduction
2- A Movie created by Emiratweet Ambassador
