So we all heard and read about the Emirati motorist racked up fines of Dh42,000 within an hour on Shaikh Zayed Road and was caught by 12 radars. (I can’t stop asking myself WHY?)
According to police sources, the man had been caught by 12 radars beginning at 3.05am on Shaikh Zayed Road in May. He was driving 60km over the speed limit. The man claimed that he was speeding in order to reach home as his daughter was ill (This is what gulf news stated) On the other hand (7 days stated) That he claimed he was innocent and that his friend from another GCC country had been driving the car when the incident occurred last month.
hmmmmm?! So which is true?? anyways Major Al Zafeen said as per 7days:
“In his case, the car has to be impounded for one year because driving at this speed is very dangerous and messy… to encourage him to respect traffic rules, we agreed to reduce the impounding to 300 days.”
and as per Gulf News:
“There is no excuse for driving at such a reckless speed and exposing yourself and other drivers on the road to grave danger,” said Lt Col Al Mazroui.
“The punishment for driving at such a speed is Dh1,000, 30 days of confiscation of the vehicle and 12 black traffic points.”
Hint Hint remember the ‘Speed Kills’ campaign on November 1 which will attempt to reduce the number of fatalities caused by speeding on roads. Police officers will start impounding vehicles on the spot who are caught speeding by more than 60km over the speed limit. (Good Luck!)

The goal of this is to remind the Palestinian people that they are not forgotten, that they are remembered and that the Arab world has something they wish to say to them, even if they are not able to be there physically – this video will be a piece of their individual solidarity with the people of Palestine.
So, Where it will be shown?
From the occupied territories of 1948 to the West Bank – this film will travel to schools, homes, community centers and theatres in Palestine through the Ziyara initiative. The film also has the potential of being shown at private screenings and festivals.
And the time-line for all of this is as follows:
Each interviewee was shot in their homes, work, personal activities and community related deeds. It was either a sit-down interview (a formal Q&A and a chance to direct their message to the camera), or while sitting down with the family, spending time on hobbies, housework, or out into the neighborhood, volunteer projects, or any Palestine related activities

The investigations launched by Dubai Police about the suspicious package found onboard a Federal Express cargo plane coming from Yemen has revealed that the package contained a computer printer with explosives loaded to its toner cartridge. A statement released by Dubai Police today said the explosives were ‘professionally’ loaded and connected via an electric circuit to a mobile phone chip hidden inside the printer.

The EOD specialists said the package contained the highly explosive PETN and lead azide substances, used in bomb detonators.

“We faced a great increase of drowning cases in the months of April and May, the main reason is when beach-goers ignore instructions, say Dubai Police.
Dubai Police said they planned to launch an extensive awareness campaign by March 2011 warning beach-goers against swimming in undesignated areas and at dangerous hours. They also planned to increase police units at hot zones.
“We will increase police presence on beaches that attract many visitors or have had the highest number of accidents in the past,” Major Bin Darwish said.
According to the Rescue Department at Dubai Police, one of the most dangerous beaches with the highest number of accidents is the Umm Suqueim beach. Most incidents that required the attention of the Rescue Department at Dubai Police were drownings, sea sports accidents such as jet skis and motor boats colliding, individuals falling off boats, and vehicles falling into the sea or creek.
Police have reported 89 serious accidents involving swimmers in the first nine months of this year compared to 81 for the whole of 2009. The 89 cases included 42 cases of near-drowning or drowning that caused eight fatalities. A total of 27 out of 42 of these cases occurred in the months of April and May, police sources said.
“The increase of the population is not the reason for the increase of accidents as many believe, but really the lack of awareness of the public,” Major Bin Darwish said. “Lack of preparation for a sea trip such as checking the weather forecast or making sure you are aware of emergency numbers and carrying an efficient life-aid kit can make a big difference.”
