The Consumer Code of Rights was issued under UAE Federal Law (24) 2006. In Dubai, the Department of Economic Development’s (DED) Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Division has been charged with the responsibility to ensure that consumers and retailers alike comply with the Consumer Code of Rights, understand their responsibilities and, where resolution is sought, facilitate this process between retailers and consumers.
There are several ways in which you can register a complaint at DED, these include telephone, fax, email, website or a personal visit to DeD consumer protection division.

The Consumer Rights Division of the Department of Economic Development promotes consumer rights and fair trading in Dubai by:

providing information and advice to consumers and retailer / sellers about their rights and responsibilities;

helping consumers resolve disputes with retailer / sellers;

investigating complaints about unfair trading practices;

regulating business activities;

Soon Dubai will also become the center for cricket excellence with the ICC Global Cricket Academy commencing its operations. Cricketers from around the world are expected to use this academy, which is equipped with the most modern facilities, to shape their game.

“It will be a great experience for every cricketer. We have created facilities that are of the highest standard. The indoor training facility will have a fielding area and seven lanes with varying conditions like spin, seam, hard and fast. Each lane will be monitored by mounted cameras for technical analysis and fault detection and correction. The Hawk-Eye is also being installed to track and record each and every delivery,” said Ekta Hutton, the Acting General Manager of the ICC Global Cricket Academy.

The indoor facilities will include classrooms, team meeting rooms and a technology suite with a store for video analysis.

Qatari drivers are on course for a...

Qatari drivers are on course for a double celebration in the 32nd Dubai International Rally tomorrow (Saturday) after Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi saw his hopes of victory to round off UAE National Day weekend shattered by a blown engine.

At the end of Leg 1, on completion of six special stages today, Qatar’s top-seeded Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, title holder in the rally and the FIA Middle East Championship, held a lead of 46.9 seconds from the UAE’s Rashid Al Ketbi.

Needing only a top six finish to snatch the Middle East crown from fellow-countryman Al Attiyah, Misfer Al Marri was comfortable in fourth position and looking more and more likely to become the fourth Qatari to claim the regional series since its launch in 1984.

With Khaled Al-Suwaidi in third place, the same position he held in the championship at the start

of this eighth and final round, it is becoming an even better weekend for Qatar following the country’s momentous achievement the previous evening in winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup bid.

Al Attiyah celebrated that success by displaying a 2022 sticker across the windscreen of his

Super 2000 Ford Fiesta as the First Leg got under way. But he had no answer to Al Qassimi’s early surge which gave him a lead of 4.6 seconds over the first loop of three special stages.

On the next stage, Sheikh Khalid extended his advantage to 12.6 seconds, but minutes later his charge towards a third Dubai International Rally victory was destroyed as his Ford Fiesta’s engine blew 11kms into the day’s fifth and penultimate stage.

Dubai Rally 2

It was a cruel disappointment for the UAE star who had said before the start that he could think only of winning his home rally and would go flat out to achieve that objective in the event, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Arts and Culture Authority.

Back-to-back winner in 2005 and 2006, Sheikh Khalid described his experience over the first three special stages as “perfect”, although Al Attiyah appeared fully relaxed, knowing the battle had just begun.

Having won Dubai International Rally five times in the last seven years, he should now add to that haul, although he cannot afford to relax, or make mistakes, particularly if Al Ketbi reproduces his performamce on Leg 2 last year when he won all but one stage.

The UAE’s Sheikh Abdullah Al Qassimi, brother of Sheikh Khalid, finished the leg in fifth place, with Kuwait’s Essam Al Najadi in a Subaru Impreza completing the top six.

The surviving 20 cars leave Rally HQ at Dubai Men’s College just after 0800 in the morning (Saturday) at the start of Leg 2, with three special stages each to be run twice in the Al Dhaid area. Specators can locate these from the Sharjah-Kalba Road or the Al Dhaid Road. The rally finishes at the Old Town Island, Dubai at 4.30pm. Enthusiasts can follow the event on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/DubaiInternationalRally

One year after the Dubai World debt...

One year after the Dubai World debt meltdown we go back to Dubai to see if things have improved.

Looking down on a city in crisis

The idea for this show came from, quite simply, a similar show we did last year.

It became apparent very quickly back in November 2009 that Dubai World’s request for a freeze on its debt repayments was more than just an economic story … instead, it was the sudden unravelling of a city, a dream and a way of life.

Dubai had become a haven for so many – be they Western expats attempting to climb the corporate ladder, or migrant workers looking for a means to support their family. They’d come here, and now their existence was being threatened.

Not just because of Dubai World to be entirely fair, but because the truth about Dubai’s ability to deal with the economic slowdown had never been fully told. In late 2009, that truth was being not only told but shouted and broadcasted all over the world. So we came down here last year to report on the crisis as it happened … and felt it only right to come back one year on, to see what (if anything) had really changed.

Everyone should develop and use common courtesy...

Everyone should develop and use common courtesy and respect for others, regardless of what country, region, state, or city. There is way too much rudeness, nasty language (and gestures) and lack of respect. The Golden Rule is still the best way to conduct yourself.

A BRITISH Man has been sentenced to two months in jail after giving an airport worker “the finger” in Dubai.

The Sun of London reports that Paul Anthony a 34-year-old British man has been arrested and sentenced to two months in jail for showing the finger to a woman worker at the Dubai airport. He got into a row with a woman airport employee when she reportedly refused to let him use a customer services desk phone. He ‘cursed’ the woman in front of her colleagues and then thrust his middle finger in her face as he passed through border controls.

A Dubai court source said: “Brits have often fallen foul of decency laws but no one’s been arrested this quickly.”

He was convicted of indecency and insulting the employee. He, however, pleaded not guilty and launched an appeal. Court officials said Anthony worked for the UN and was planning a stopover in Dubai en route from an unnamed Asian country.

As we said earlier – If you travel to any country, obey the rules. If you had a house guest, would you want that guest insulting your children? Remember when you travel, you are in a sense an ambassador of your country of residence, and as such any behavior is representative of your country.

Burj Khalifa the tallest building in the world is in Dubai and one of landmarks we Emiratis are proud of. But wait, lets recall again it is in the UAE and an important landmark in Dubai and all Emiratis are proud of it before anyone else. Jalal BinThaneya who is an Emirati Activist has approached Burj Khalifa management on 2008 to enter the tower legally and ascend the steps of the Burj Khalifa Tower (160 Floors).

Jalal‘s initiative is for a great cause. We fully support and empower all Emiratis who are working towards achieving their goals which are for the good of this country.
