His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, visited Latifa Hospital yesterday and donated blood after he heard of a shortage of blood for thalassemia patients in Dubai. Leading by example, the leader rushed to Latifa Hospital upon hearing about a shortage of blood to, in his own words, �do my duty.�

The main National Day event in Dubai

The main event marking the National Day celebrations in Dubai will be held at the Heritage Village in Shindaga area, which still has remnants of the ancient heritage of the emirate, on December 1. With the national slogan �Spirit of the Union�, the ceremony marking the auspicious event will be held from 3.30pm. The village will be full of activities even before the commencement of the main ceremony, which will be held on the Dubai Creek narrating the story of the spirit of the UAE Federation. The event will highlight the four themes of National Day � �Our Father Shaikh Zayed�, �Global Society�, �Our History� and �Our Future�.

The Dubai Committee, overseeing the National Day celebrations in the emirate, will launch a multilingual media campaign in local dailies, television and radio channels inviting the public to attend the national event in the next few days. The committee reviewed the arrangements made to accommodate a large number of people in the area, including a vast plot of land for parking vehicles and signboards directing the public to the venue. The committee also discussed the ways to encourage people to use the public transport modes, especially Metro Green Line at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station, which is close to the venue. Souvenirs will be distributed to the public at the entrances of Heritage Village before the commencement of the main event on December 1. The committee has invited all segments of the society to attend the event and enjoy shows, which will be held for the first time in the waters of Dubai Creek, and will end with spectacular fireworks. Dubai government departments and entities have been organising events this month celebrating the great occasion and portraying the major achievements the country has made over the last 40 years. The official activities included Dubai International Airshow which, this year, coincided with the National Day celebrations and, hence, featured shows that fit the occasion like the jets drawing the colours the UAE flag in the air that enthralled the audience. A National Poetry Evening was organised by Willington International School. The campus hosted a number of Emirati poets, who read out their best poems on the UAE, National Day and national identity. An event titled �Emarati� (My Emirates) is being organised by Mirdiff City Centre everyday from November 1. The event focuses on making wonderful models depicting the areas of the country and their achievements. The designed models on display will provide an opportunity to the customers and visitors of the shopping centre from all walks of life to see and get acquainted with the culture of��the UAE. Dubai hotels have also joined the celebrations, vying to win the best decoration award in a competition. The competition is designed to boost a sense of nationalism and spread the national culture among the visitors and customers in Dubai. In addition, Al Habtoor Grand Resort will hold an endurance race in which seven teams representing the seven emirates will take part. The activities scheduled in Heritage Village this month includes a poetry session titled the �Federation Gala Night� on November 28. Poets have been invited to take part in the session to recite their poems with the aim of boosting the national spirit. A photography exhibition in which photos depicting the history and the civilisation of UAE will be held in the village, to help the people get acquainted with the history of the country. Traditional folk dances and shows will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition, the committee said. The UAE Hot-air Balloon Championship, as announced by the Dubai Sports Council, will be held. The balloons will light up the sky of the emirate in spectacular colours matching the occasion. The Dubai Press Club will also organise a programme called �Personalities in UAE Media�. The national media has passed through important stages in the history of the federation, played a pivotal role in explaining the UAE Federation to Arab masses and spreading the Emirati culture to the world. The programme will throw light on the different roles played by local and Arab media and media personalities in the UAE Federation. The progress made by the local media over the last 40 years will also be reviewed. The Dubai Committee for the celebration of National Day comprises representatives from government departments, including the Secretariat General of the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Police HQ, Civil Defence General Department, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai Municipality, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment.

UAE President Opens FNC

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has said that opening of the first ordinary session of the 15th legislative chapter of the Federal National Council (FNC) is a successful enthronement for the second phase in our course to deepen the culture of participation and develop its practices which we have taken with full national will and we are determined to move forward to achieve the aspirations of our people in a homeland to share and be proud to live in and belonging to it because empowerment is the spirit of the Union. He made these remarks during the opening of the first ordinary session of the 15th legislative chapter of the Federal National Council (FNC) on Tuesday in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. UAE federal human resources law amended

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a decree amending by-laws of the Federal Government Human Resources law. Under Federal Law No. 9 of 2011, the decree stipulates that all federal bodies are obliged to sign employment contracts with their staff, detailing their vocational rights and duties, and professional ethics that they must abide by when performing their governmental duties. The law aims to enhance the quality of government services, as well as increasing the productivity of employees. The decree also stipulates that jobs available in ministries can be presented in the following types of contracts: part-time, full-time, temporary, or special contracts. This aims to provide Emiratis with job opportunities, and a chance to acquire work experience. – WAM

President issues National Day resolutions

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a series of resolutions on the occasion of National Day that aim to provide stability and good life for Emiratis, as well as meeting their aspirations. As per the resolutions, federal government employees will receive a salary hike in 2012. Judicial authorities will receive a 100 per cent raise on their basic salary. Ministry of Health employees will receive a 100 per cent raise on their work nature compensation, and a 100 per cent raise for Ministry of Education teachers. The decision stipulates that employees in the rank of under-secretary and assistant under-secretary would get a special raise of 35 per cent of the basic salaries of those whose ranks are between special first and sixth rank, while those on the seventh to the 14th rank would get a raise of 45 per cent of their basic salaries. The increase will be added to the employee�s transport allowance. Shaikh Khalifa also issued a resolution, in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to allocate 2,500 plots of land for Emiratis, which is in line with Shaikh Khalifa�s keenness to ensure that Emiratis receive adequate housing, and ensuring stability and security for their family and future. The President issued another resolution setting up a fund with a capital of Dh 10 billion to study and address the loans of Emiraits with limited income. The fund will settle personal loans by coordinating with the UAE Central Bank and other banks in the country. Shaikh Khalifa also issued a resolution increasing allocations for social aid by 20 per cent for specified cases that are eligible for the aid. Shaikh Khalifa also issued a resolution that allows the sons and daughters of Emirati women married to non-nationals to apply for the citizenship when they reach the age of 18. The resolution also orders all ministries, governmental departments and concerned bodies to treat the sons and daughters of Emirati women married to non-nationals as Emiratis. The President issued a Federal Decree setting up the UAE President Appreciation Award, which will honour innovators and hard workers that have accomplished achievements that enhanced the UAE�s position on the local, regional and international stage. The award seeks to The winners will be awarded with a badge and a financial reward. The decree stipulates that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs will set up the board of trustees, which will be chaired by the Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, and include the membership of six other officials that possess the necessary capabilities and expertise. The board�s duties include specifying the conditions and terms for nominating people for the award, and setting up the award�s specialized committees. The board of trustees will also determine the specifications of the badge and the financial reward.

Blackberry Service Crash Due To A Sudden Failure

Tens of millions of BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa have been unable to receive or send emails and messages through their phones, following an outage at the server systems of parent company Research In Motion (RIM) in Slough, Berkshire. The outage, which occurred at about 11am BST on Monday, was still affecting users more than four hours later with no time given for when it was expected to be resolved. The company released a brief acknowledgement of the problem at 3.30pm, saying: “We are working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. We’re investigating, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused while this is resolved.” Meanwhile in the UAE #BBM hashtag trended ..
