Emirateyat 2.0 Review

Emiratweet celebrated the International Women Day in...

Emiratweet celebrated the International Women Day in its second Emirateyat event with three inspiring women, Hala Kazim, Muna Al Gurg and Iman ben Chaibah to share their experiences with the Emirati women. Emirateyat highlights the Emirati women achievements, success and honor the Emirati women past, present and future. Speakers were asked to get involved in an enlightening discussion about the given support from the family and culture, how being ambitious makes a difference in the business life, challenges and faced obstacles in the workforce, leader traits, word of advice, power of social media and their role model.

The country has opened doors to Emirati women encouraging them to work in all fields, allow them to realize their potential talent and capacity. Therefore they were able to choose the profession that suits their nature. According to the discussion topic of how culture, tradition and family support the Emirati women, Iman expressed that any person should take the advice from someone who has been there, done that and succeeded in it. Then she stated that everything she reached is because she demanded for, which means every woman has to have the passion and desire in order to succeed and reach her goal.

In 1980s it was rare to find a woman working in a public place whereas now offices are full of working women. Quietly, women become active partners in all fields and society welcomes that and accepted the role they play?. On the discussion topic of what are the challenges and opportunities women encountered in the workforce and as business owners, Hala expressed that ?you do face challenges, you will face people who believe in you and people who don?t, and definitely every woman do face challenges. You have to believe in your passion and believe in it. No matter what people say.

You find challenges in everything you do but you have to believe and feel your way and your passion to be able to go on?.

Muna said in every situation you will find someone who would not be supportive. Be passionate and at the same time focus on your goal?. She also added that ambition is an important thing to have but she doesn?t believe that a workforce? is for every woman. Some women prefer staying home and that is okay. Then she appointed that some of the cahllegnes women face are lack of support system and networking opportunites.

Iman ended the part by saying that opportunities are there for everyone, its up to the women to step out nad grab it.

Regarding the obstacles women might face in a workplace, Muna said that the Lack of support services is one of the hinders of a working woman. We need to start with having women role models who would go to schools and mentor the younger generations. We need a lot more support fore women in the UAE?.

Hala expressed beautifully anything you do will go somewhere. If you can change one person life from the hundred you meet then you are a winner.

With a discussion of the traits of a leader, Hala said that a leader should know the different between a leader and a boss. You guide people this is a leadership. Then Iman highlighted that the characteristics of a leader are having a clear vision and communication skills. She also added that to be a leader, you need to have a vision, otherwise you don?t know were your going and your stuck in one place.

Muna cleared that passion, dedicates, drive differentiates a leader from a non leader.

Vibrant interactive talk on women?s issues, thank you for organizing it, Muna Al Gurg said.

Instill the sense of leadership in our children

Channeling the effective leadership skills which is...

Channeling the effective leadership skills which is having the ability to lead our children is a powerful tool and encouraging them, sharpening their leadership skills in a small age can benefit our society.

The point that I stressed on in the Young Arab Leaders conference (YAL) was guiding children in a small age to motivate them, discover their strengths, develop their talents and nurture their potentials. We want our children to learn the powerfulness of listening, soliciting others’ ideas and beliefs. Importantly, familiarize them with the concept of problem solving; and that for every problem there is more than one good solution. Encourage them to compliment others and give them credit for their accomplishments and successfulness.

Besides, the child can arbitrate a disagreement among people in any discussion forum, have fruitful decisions based on efficient decision making techniques. “catching them in the act,” meaning when children tend to have snap judgments and act on them without thinking. Here comes the role of educating them for the success of effective leadership in the long term.

Unluckily the majority of schools send the message to the children of how it’s important to memorize the curriculum in order to pass with flying colors. They’ll have a very high percentage in high school and when they join the college or university they are unable to lead, decide or manage. This consequent result is what I can call “a waste of time and energy”.

In my perspective schools need further educational strategies development that we should take to heart and make it boost further. To end up in having young leaders, our children should start with poor decisions, thoughts and experience the consequences which will help them make better decisions in the long term future. Frankly, not every child has the traits that can make them leaders but at least the schools can develop the leadership skills in children that will make them confident, successful and more independent.

World Sight Day

“World Sight Day (WSD) is an...

“World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness held on the second day Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and impairment”.

Vision 2020 Global Initiative: “The Right to Sight” coordinates the WSD where its members and supporters collaborate to organize events to spread the awareness of blindness and vision impairment publicly. The global effort behind the Vision 2020 is invented by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. The WHO program believes that avoidable causes of blindness can be monitored and finally eliminated.

“The global target is to ultimately reduce blindness prevalence to less than 0.5 % in all countries, or less than 1 % in any country”

Blindness is the condition of lacking visual perception due to physiological or neurological factors. Blindness and impairment are regarded as physiological or neurological international health issues where it should be taken into account. WSD main target involves educating people to prevent impairment or restore sight. According to several positive international key messages, 80 % of blindness cases are treatable, infectious causes of blindness are minimized and restorations of sight and blindness avoidance techniques are spread among health care centers.

These include blurred vision, halos, blind spots, floaters, and other symptoms. Blurred vision is the loss of sharpness of vision and the inability to see small details. Blind spots (scotomas) are dark “holes” in the visual field in which nothing can be seen.  Alternative Names are vision impairment; Impaired vision; Blurred vision. We should consider changes in vision, blurriness, blind spots, halos around lights, or dimness of vision should always be evaluated by a medical professional. Such changes may represent an eye disease, aging, eye injury, or a condition like diabetes that affects many organs in your body.

Friday is a blessing day :) . “The best of your days is Friday. On that day Adam (peace be upon him) was created; on that day he died; on that day the Trumpet will be blown and on that day all of creation will swoon. It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed al-Khduri that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.”

So don’t forget reading Surat Al-Kahf: :) have a lovely and bright friday!

Emirati men traditional style

While reading some of the old articles by one of the news reporters who wrote an article with the title “Style is a way of Emirati life”?, I decided it would be best to explain it more with some enlightening details. Some people look at some Emirati guys wearing the head traditional black-ring (Iqal), white or red head cloth (Ghutra) and khandouras as the easiest style ever.

As one of the reporters said once”Do you know how much work it takes to look that cool and traditional at the same time?”?. Well, Emirati men find it hectic and not easy whatsoever since they spend a long time finding the perfect fabric and the suitable Iqal that suit them. From 1000 Iqal, you’ll find one that sticks on your head, an Emirati guy stressed.

This makes most Emiratis tailor their Iqals and not only khandouras. But the journey to finding the one tailor in that one shop is what lies ahead of you?, an Emirati added. The guys are very precise on the details of their national dress, so youll see them making sure that their khandouras are well ironed, there is no a stain on it and make sure they dont miss the farokha (the tassel on the front of the ghutra). The fold of the ghutra initiates a certain level of respect in which a guy wears it and every Emirati’s ghutra style is either taken from their fathers, relatives, friends or developed by their own.
The National dress (khandoura) differs in summer and winter. So youll see Emriaties having tans, browns, yellows, grey, dark grey navy blues kndouras in winter and others will stick to the traditional white khandoura. In summer the majority stick to the light colors.

Pen, sunglasses and wallets become engrained in Emirati style which Emiraties have to use them carefully because they are the impressions they will give and what makes them professional in the business world. The journey is not yet ended; the Emirati should buy the traditional leather sleeper that has a different brand and quality. The chosen sleeper must suit the khandoura and pen to have a perfect style and fit.

So do you still have the idea that that Emirati national dress is too simple? Hope that everyone notices that the national dress is an art that most Emiratis are proud of and spend a great effort to make it look gorgeous and neat.
