Abu Dhabi (imarat abu Dhabi) Abu = Father / Dhabi = Gazelle, literally it means “Father of Gazelle”
It is one of seven emirates that constitute the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Federal capital and also the largest of the seven emirates covering more than 85 per cent of land that constitutes the UAE.Into the mid-20th century, the economy of Abu Dhabi continued to be sustained mainly by camel herding, production of dates and vegetables at the inland oasis of Al Ain and Liwa, and fishing and pearl diving off the coast of Abu Dhabi city.
AlNahyan is one of the six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates, and are based in the capital Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Al Nahyan is a branch of the House of Al-Falahi (?l B? Fal??), a branch of the Bani Yas tribe, and are related to the House of Al-Falasi, from which the ruling family of Dubai, Al Maktoum, descends.
The Founder of Abu Dhabi was Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahayan (1761–1793) and the founder of the Al Abu Falah dynasty, which still rules Abu Dhabi today. Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa, leader of the Bani Yas tribal confederation, sent a hunting party from Liwa in 1761 which tracked a gazelle to a brackish spring on the island. The gazelle became the symbol of Abu Dhabi, and gave it its name (literally Father of the Gazelle).
Qasr AlHosn was built in his era it started out as a round watchtower defending the only freshwater well on Abu Dhabi island in 1761. Then is 1793, at it became the permanent residence of the ruling sheikh who was Sheikh Shakbout bin Deyab. A major extension to its current shape took place in the late 1930s, aided by revenues received for granting the first oil license in Abu Dhabi. It remained the royal palace (hence the name Qasr al-Hosn, meaning palace-fort) and seat of government until 1966.
