National Symbols

Each country has some national symbols which symbolize its nation or country. The national symbol creates a visual, verbal and iconic representations of the people, values, goals, identity, traditions, cultures and history of the country. As Emiratis our national symbols offer a sense of pride and honor.
  1. Flag [ United Arab Emirates ] My country’s flag was adopted on December 2, 1971. It contains the Pan-Arab colors red, green, white and black, which symbolize Arabian unity.
  2. Anthem [Ishy Bilady] The anthem was composed by Saad Abdel Wahab. The lyrics to the anthem, officially adopted in 1996, were written by Arif Al Sheikh Abdullah Al Hassan.
  3. Oryx [] Arabs have admired the Oryx for its whiteness and have called it Wahedi Arabi as an indication of its clear, vivid color. Oryx is a symbol of power, dignity and pride.
  4. Falcon ] Is the national bird of UAE and is a symbol of force, grace, pride, strength and courage, recognizing the importance of falconry in Arab tradition and culture.
  5. Palm Tree ] It symbolizes fertility and pride. While Palm always found surrounding Oasis, it was a sign for food and water. With its great height without bowing down, it is also used to symbolize pride and dignity.
  6. Dhow [ ]  It plays a major significance symbolizing the sea trade and pearl diving activities which was at a certain point in history our Gulf water wealth.
  7. Arabic Coffee ]  Traditional coffee brewing, more common in the Arab states of the Arabian Gulf. It has a special coffee pot called dallah and the coffee cups are small but with no handle. The portions are very small, covering the bottom of the cup. It is the custom of the UAE people to entertain their guests warmly. The Arabic coffee is a gesture of respect and warm welcome. It is a symbol of generosity and hospitality too
