Zayed Heritage Village was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah on 2/10/2005. The village is located in Ghalilah, 26km north of Ras Al Khaimah. The village was founded by Saeed Ali Al-Shehhi at his own expense in recognition of the late leader for his change in living conditions of people of the UAE.
Saeed’s objective for this village is to teach our children that a man named Zayed was born on this land. A man who changed the political, social, economic and physical condition of the region and changed the desert to green and the created the identity of this land the United Arab Emirates. To teach them how life was like in the past and how Zayed changed the standard living to the glory and prosperity. Also, to show them the different types of homes used in the past and the contents of furniture.
The village is worth a visit. It is run by a local person, who passionate about the local history and heritage. Over the years, he has gathered a spectacular collection of silver jewellery, weaponry and has opened a well stocked library. All visitors are welcome.
