Vote for Bu Tinah

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has partnered with the Department of Transport (DoT) in an initiative to encourage people to vote for Bu Tinah Island, as one of the new seven Wonders of Nature. Bu Tinah Island, located around 130 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi, is a unique island and a core area of the Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve. In March 2010, EAD launched an international campaign to encourage people to vote for Bu Tinah Island, as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Bu Tinah Island was shortlisted among 28 finalists from a list of 447 sites and the New 7 Wonders of Nature will be declared on November 11, 2011. A vote among a billion [votes] from 220 nations across the globe in a global contest will make a difference in everyone’s life, according to a senior official. A vote in the New Seven Wonders of Nature contest can be considered a vote for the efforts to conserve the biodiversity which is essential for social wellbeing, Thabit Al Abdul Salam, Director of the Biodiversity Management Sector at the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi (EAD) told Gulf News Thursday. The UAE’s ongoing campaign for Bu Tinah Islands to be voted among the seven winners of the global New Seven Wonders of Nature contest highlights the role of biodiversity in everyone’s life, he said on the sidelines of a media briefing. He was referring to the well-known scientific facts that biodiversity and the many ecosystem services are a key factor determining human well-being.
